The SCAN (Scientific Content ANalysis) technique is used to analyze the language used in written statements for signs of deception, veracity or editing, (places where the subject has omitted sensitive information).
The VIEW Questionnaire is a simple way to apply this to numerous individuals at the same time.
At the conclusion of the presentation, students will:
Be introduced to the SCAN technique and its history.
Understand that most people do not lie; they just avoid the whole truth.
Understand by using linguistic methods to break and decipher the subject's linguistic code, we are able to obtain more information and to reach an accurate decision concerning the reliability of the information.
Understand that with SCAN we discover the full story that the subject didn't want to expose openly in the content of the story.
Be introduced to the VIEW Questionnaire concept as a component of SCAN.
Understand that the VIEW questionnaire can be used with multiple suspects.
Understand that SCAN and VIEW are non-threatening and non-accusatory.
Learn how to divide the results of the VIEW Questionnaire into three areas.
Learn to use the VIEW Questionnaire to focus an investigation and prepare follow up interview questions.
